Write A Screenplay You Can Make!

ALL ONLINE VIA ZOOM

Filmmaker and NYU Tisch/Stonestreet Studios faculty member Gabriel Frye-Behar will be leading an online screenwriting workshop this spring for anyone 18+.

Pigeonholed’s mission is to empower artists to tell the stories they care about the most, and provide a space for up-and-coming storytellers to find their voice. This writing class is aimed directly at building the foundational and practical screenwriting skills necessary to take an idea and transform it from an initial concept onto the page, and eventually onto the screen.

All genres of narrative fiction are welcome, as well as sketch comedy and web series-style content. The class will be held in a collaborative workshop style, with feedback given by both peers and the instructor. The focus will be on fostering an honest dialogue where each student is given respectful, direct and usable feedback on their work, with an eye on finding the most exciting and most imminently producible idea for each member of the class. Our goal will be for each student to finish the class with a script that is ready to film.

It's Time to Write Your Play

Taught by Emily Daly

Ages 18 and up

Class Description

Writing plays is never about figuring out the right answer - that's why we don't call it Math.

With prompts, timed exercises, workshopped pages and curated feedback, students will explore new ways of generating, observing, and exploring their artistic process over a 6 week period. Whether this is a first play or a fiftieth play, by the end of the class each student will either have completed a short play, or be well on their way to finishing a full-length.

The goal of the class is to reacquaint each writer with that little voice inside us all that thinks it's fun to tell the truth and make stuff up at the same time, and learn how to harness and collaborate with that voice.
